With Rohit Pradhan and Sridhruti Chitrapu, on Legal Writing

Hi Team. Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Greetings to all the readers. We are Rohit Pradhan and Sridhruti Chitrapu studying in our 4th year at Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad.

Rohit Pradhan: My dad had an immense influence on my decision for taking up law and I wanted to follow my dad’s footsteps. After class 12 like most of my peers I was shepherded towards engineering as I was a science student. But I soon realised that was not my calling and had just enough time to give law entrance examinations, that’s how I started my law school adventure.

Sridhruti Chitrapu: I come from a long line of lawyers and it has greatly motivated me to join the field. I have seen my grandfather and parents in advocacy since my childhood and I have always found it entrancing so it was the natural course of action for me.

You guys belong to Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. Please tell your experience.

Any guidelines for those interested research papers, essays, blogs, etc.

The first and foremost thing that an author is required to do after choosing a topic of their interest is to draw out the scope of what they are planning to cover in that article. By a thorough research and analysis of the available literature, the author would get a clear understanding of the issues at hand. Framing a research question is of paramount importance as the entire course of the research article is determined by it. For blog write ups it is advisable to choose a recent issue.

What are footnotes? How one should add footnotes? Any specific manner to add? Are footnotes, endnotes and references different? If yes, please explain us how?

Though they are all projected in different manners, they have the same purpose, which is to render proper credit where credit is due. Footnotes and Endnotes are different by definition as the former appears at the bottom of a page while the later appears at the end of an article. They are a form of acknowledgement to the works that you have referred upon for building your article. Footnotes could also be used to convey an interesting and relevant piece of information that cannot be written in the main body of the paper. An author is expected to cite and give a footnote wherever there is any borrowed content, theories or ideas.

Please introduce us to ‘Lex Forti’. How did you start ‘Lex Forti’? Considering its something different, what challenges did you guys faced?

LexForti is a legal portal that provides daily legal news updates, a vast assortment of academic papers and conducts unique competitions and events at regular intervals (For example: We have conducted India’s first Trademark Competition). We believe in developing and delivering quality content to our readers and we are greatly supported by our ever resourceful and dedicated editorial team and interns.

When we started off, we found that there was a scarcity in legal websites that provide legal news and research articles at the same time and place. Since we always wanted to do something impactful in the legal fraternity, this seemed like an exciting initiative. Once we put the plan into motion, we vowed to provide each of our viewers a premium experience by delivering the best findings. We developed a unique android application with a huge legal database that provides easy access to our viewers with just 3.5MB. Being a law student it is very difficult to manage time juggling between the course work, extra readings and our website but we gradually learnt to adjust our schedules around our academic calendar.

What would be your parting message to our readers?

The legal profession can be very taxing, more so in these trying times. We should always set achievable goals and remember to treat ourselves after.
