The Moot Club at Government Law College, Ernakulam, is thrilled to announce the 22nd Edition of the T.S. Venkateswara Iyer Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy National Moot Court Competition 2025. The competition will be held in a hybrid format, with the preliminary rounds taking place virtually on 1st and 2nd February 2025, and the in-person rounds from 21st to 23rd February 2025.

About Government Law College, Ernakulam

The Government Law College, Ernakulam, established in 1874, is Kerala’s oldest law college and one of India’s most prestigious institutions. Located in the heart of Kochi by the Vembanad Lake, the college boasts a rich legacy of 150 years, producing eminent legal luminaries such as Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Justice K.M. Joseph, Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer, and Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Eligibility

The competition is open to undergraduate students pursuing an LL.B. program (3-year, 5-year & LLM courses) from any law school, university, or department of law recognized by the Bar Council of India. Each institution is allowed to send only one team to represent them.

Team Composition

Each team must consist of 3 members:

Moot court skills course
  • 2 speakers
  • 1 researcher

The maximum number cannot be modified under any circumstance.

Each team will be provided a team code, at the time of provisional registration, prior to the submission of memorials via e-mail. This team code will be used to refer to the team for the whole competition.

Venue

The Preliminary Rounds shall be conducted through Online Mode.

All subsequent rounds thereafter will be conducted offline at the campus of Government Law College, Ernakulam, in the city of Kochi, Kerala.

Registration

  • Each team shall provisionally register for the Competition through the link below.
  • The last date for provisional registration is 15th January 2025.
  • Provisional registration after the given deadline shall not be accepted, under any circumstances.
  • After the deadline for the provisional registration expires, the organisers shall respond to each provisionally registered team, with a unique team code, which shall be used to identify the teams during the competition.
  • The teams qualifying the Memorial Selection Round should proceed to complete the Final Registration.
  • The Final Registration form will be sent to the selected teams on the day of announcing the result of the Memorial Selection (24th January 2025).

Fee Details

The Registration fee for the competition is INR 3000/- (without accommodation and transport facilities). For the teams who opts for accommodation and transport facilities the Registration fee is INR 4500/-. The team may choose to pay the accommodation and transport fees (INR 1500/-) at the time of arrival for the Quarters.

However, such teams must mandatorily pay INR 3000/- at the time of final registration.

Selected Teams should complete the final registration form with photos of team members and the signature of the Head of the Institution (along with the Seal of the institution) and a scanned copy of the same along with the payment receipt should be sent to [email protected] with the subject, ‘Registration for XXII National Moot Court Competition for Adv. T. S. Venkateswara Iyer Ever Rolling Trophy, 2025’ on or before 27th January 2025.

Competition Structure

The competition will follow a multi-round format:

  •  Preliminary Rounds: There will be two preliminary rounds of arguments per team, One for the petitioner & another for the respondent which will be held online.
  • Quarter-Finals: There will be two quarter-final rounds of arguments per team, one for the petitioner & another for the respondent.
  • Semi-Finals and Finals: The format consists of 90 minutes in total for the round and 45 minutes per team. The winners in the semi-finals are decided on a knock-out basis and will proceed to the Final round. All the other rules of the Semi-final rounds are also applicable in the final round.

  • Second Best Memorial
  • Best Researcher
  • Second Best Researcher

The winners of the above-mentioned titles will be awarded cash prizes, certificates and ever-rolling trophies. In addition to the above, Certificates will be given to other categories of winners and all other participants.
