About the Kirit P. Mehta School of Law of SVKM’S NMIMS

The Kirit P. Mehta School of Law of SVKM’S NMIMS (Deemed to be University) was established in the year 2013 and approved by the Bar Council of India with an aim to provide quality legal education to learners in the field of law. It aspires to be a global center for scholarly brilliance in the field of law and justice and prepare socially responsible law professionals with a comprehensive legal education.

Centre for Excellence was established as a research center of NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, Mumbai in the year 2018 with an endeavor to promote research and training in the domain of law and associated disciplines. The Centre conducts National Seminar with interdisciplinary themes to seek quality write-ups from acclaimed experts and students across India. The seminar provides a recognized platform to the researchers for collaboration of knowledge and expertise in various fields of law.

About The Opportunity

NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, Mumbai is hosting the 3rd edition of the National Level seminar on the broad theme of “Media and Law” which is to be held on 23rd of January, 2021. The seminar will be organized by Centre For Excellence which is a research center of the university and aims to significantly enhance legal research & development, through its integration with allied disciplines.

About the Seminar

Media has been an integral element of society however its role has never been fully recognized. It is responsible for the dissemination of significant information, educational opportunities, entertainment, and most importantly serves as a public forum for discussion of important issues and acts as a watchdog on government, business, and other institutions. Historically, the importance of media was recognized during the 1450s. With rapid technological advancements and the incessantly increasing industrialization, new forms of mediums were discovered for the dissemination of information and broadcasting posing innumerable challenges.

Presently, the Internet is the fastest mode of penetration of communication and thus content regulation has become a sore point of almost all the government. Today, it is extremely crucial to educate people regarding their responsibility towards a civil society through the appropriate exhibition of knowledge and information. Therefore, it is obligatory for all of us to understand the amalgamation of the two disciplines namely, “Law” and “Media” so as to ascertain the role of law in regulating the conduct of media, especially when the frequency of access to information has increased multifold.

Objective

The present National Seminar organized by the Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, Mumbai aims to study the intrinsic relationship between Media and Law and attempts to set the stage for a bountiful discussion around the viability of media laws with special emphasis on the recent developments in the concerned field. Furthermore, the seminar encourages an exploratory approach towards all the unanswered questions and the untapped ambiguities surrounding the concerned subject matter.

Eligibility

This seminar is open to all the students enrolled in different disciplines, especially Media and Law, research scholars, academicians, professors.

Call for Synopsis

Submission in the form of 700-1000 words Research Synopsis is invited for the presentation at the 3rd edition of National Seminar.

Submission Guidelines

The Synopsis of the research paper should be submitted in .doc/.docx format with the following specifications:

  • Font Type: Times New Roman
  • Font Size: 12 pts
  • Line Spacing: 1.5
  • Footnotes Font Type: Times New Roman
  • Footnotes Font Size: 10 pts
  • Footnotes Line spacing: 1
  • Margin to be of 1 inch on all the sides
  • Citation: Any Uniform Pattern of citation
  • The Participants are required to submit the final papers post the seminar; the date for the same shall be communicated by the organizers during the seminar.

  • Student Co-authors (2): Rs.1000/-
  • Professionals/ Academicians/ Research scholars: Rs.900/-
