Sureswar Dutta Law College (SDLC), established in the year 2014, stands as a beacon of legal education in Howrah, West Bengal, holding the distinction of being the first and the only law College in the district. The Institution was founded to commemorate the life and legacy of Late Shri Sureswar Dutta — a towering figure in the realms of philanthropy, education, law and social reform.
Revered for his profound commitment to justice and community service, Sureswar Dutta envisioned a society rooted in equity and legal empowerment. It is his vision that continues to inspire the foundational ethos of the College that bears his name. Since its inception, SDLC has remained steadfast in its commitment to achieve excellence both in the academic sphere and in the professional development of its students. About the Opportunity
Mooting is an integral part of a law students’ journey which finds a regular mention at our College. Thus, to encourage the exhibition of an invaluable knowledge of mooting and to provide a bigger platform to the participants to showcase their court room skills, Sureswar Dutta Law College Moot Court Committee (SDLCMCC) proudly announces its 1st National Moot Court Competition, named in the cherished memory of Late Sureswar Dutta as Sureswar Dutta Memorial National Moot Court Competition, scheduled to be held on 15th November, 2025 at the College campus in Howrah, West Bengal.
This esteemed event honours Sureswar Dutta’s lasting legacy, whose vision continues to inspire upcoming generations of legal luminiars. Moreover, this Competition seeks to provide the law students across India with a platform to showcase their legal research, drafting and advocacy skills in a simulated court room environment. Hence, this inaugural edition of national level event, pledges to uphold the best standards of legal education and professional development with participation from prestigious Universities and Colleges to be adjudged by a panel of distinguished legal luminaries.

Eligibility
Students enrolled in a full-time 3-year LLB or 5-year LLB & LLM programme at a University, College and Institution that have been approved by the Bar Council of India are eligible to register in this competition. In accordance with the rules, the organizing committee will accept registrations on a First-Come, First-Serve basis, (First 20 Teams).
- A team shall consist of Two (2) Mooters and One (1) Researcher.
- Maximum number of Two (2) teams from each College can participate in the competition.

Registration fee of 1000/- per team (NON-REFUNDABLE).

- BEST TEAM – INR 8,000/- AS AWARD MONEY, LAW BOOKS WORTH INR 2,500/- AND WINNER’S TROPHIES.
- RUNNERS-UP – INR 4,000/- AS AWARD MONEY, LAW BOOKS WORTH INR 1,500/- AND RUNNERS-UP TROPHIES.
- BEST MOOTER -INR 2,000/- AWARD MONEY, LAW BOOKS WORTH INR 500/- AND A TROPHY.
- BEST RESEARCHER -INR 2,000/- AWARD MONEY, LAW BOOKS WORTH INR 500/- AND A TROPHY.

- Stipulated Duration for Submitting Clarification Request – 2nd November, 2025
- Deadline of Memorial Submission (Preliminary), (Soft Copy)- 4th November, 2025.
- Preliminary Round (Online) – 7th November, 2025
- Announcement of Preliminary Round Result – 8th November, 2025
- Final Round & Valedictory Ceremony – 15th November, 2025.
