About St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata
St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) was born out of a vision to create a centre of excellence in higher education in West Bengal. In 2011, Rev. Fr. Dr. John Felix Raj, S.J., and the St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association conceived ‘SXC Vision 2020’, which paved the way for the establishment of SXUK.
The university’s journey gained momentum in 2012 when the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, proposed the establishment of a university under the Jesuit banner. The Government of West Bengal generously allocated 17 acres of land for the university campus at Rajarhat.
About Xavier Law School
Xavier Law School was established in August, 2019 by the Honourable Lokpal of India, Mr. Pinaki Chandra Ghosh. It seeks to carry on the legacy of Jesuit education in the fields of legal education and research. It promises to provide all the facilities to the student which would help them to reach the pinnacle of success. Currently it offers two undergraduate courses – B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.), a LL.M. and a Ph.D. course.
It comprises of highly qualified faculty members and modern infrastructure including a Moot Court Hall, a Legal Aid Clinic and a Law Library dedicated to the Law school. It also comprises of two student-run societies namely the Moot Court Society (MCS) and the Xavier Society of Law and Justice (XSLAJ). It seeks to set international standards in legal education and to promote holistic development of students. Xavier Law School strives to promote a society based on love, freedom, liberty, justice, equality and fraternity by training the law students to focus on ‘Satya’ and ‘Dharma’. With this at the backdrop, Xavier Law School is determined to feature among the top law schools in the country.

About the Competition
The Surana & Surana and St. Xavier’s University Technology Law Moot Court Competition, 2025-26 envisions creating a premier national platform dedicated to the advancement of legal scholarship and advocacy in the dynamic and ever-evolving field of Technology Law.
In an age defined by digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data governance, and technological disruption, the competition seeks to cultivate a generation of legal professionals equipped to address complex regulatory, ethical, and jurisprudential challenges at the intersection of law and technology. It aspires to bridge the gap between academic discourse and practical application by encouraging participants to critically analyse emerging legal frameworks and policy concerns shaping the digital ecosystem.
Through carefully curated moot proposition and evaluation by esteemed members of the legal fraternity, the competition seeks not merely to test advocacy skills but to inspire thoughtful engagement with the legal realities of a technology-driven world.
Theme
The present moot proposition deals with the intricacies of Technology Law.
Eligibility
The competition is open for students who are pursuing LL.B. three-year or five-year course during the current academic year. One team per university shall be eligible to participate.
Registration Fee
The registration fee for each team is INR 4,500. This fee covers participation, event materials, and access to the moot rounds.
For accommodation, each team will be charged with Rs. 700/- per person per day (for example, for a 3-member team it will be Rs. 2,100/- per day x 3 days = Rs. 6,300/- for the entire team).
Prizes
- Winner: Rs. 35,000/-
- Runner up: Rs. 25,000/-
- Best Memorial: Rs. 15,000/-
- 2nd Best Memorial: Rs. 10,000/-
- Best Student Advocate: Rs. 10,000/-
- 2nd Best Student Advocate: Rs. 5,000/-
In addition to the above awards, plaques and certificates will be given to other categories of winners. All participants will be issued participation certificates.

- Last date for seeking clarification: 24th March, 2026
