Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM), a public charitable trust registered under the Societies Registration Act and the Bombay Public Trusts Act, has been dedicated to delivering high-quality education since 1934. Starting with the Rashtriya Shala, a school founded in 1921 during the National Movement, SVKM now educates over 35,000 students. About PGCL
Established in 2004 under SVKM, the Pravin Gandhi College of Law (PGCL) is permanently affiliated with the University of Mumbai and is committed to delivering quality education that meets global and local standards. The college offers a 5-Year Integrated B.A.LL.B. program, a 2-Year LL.M. with specializations in Business Law, Criminal Law, and Criminal Administration, and a 1-Year Post-Graduate Diploma in Cyber Law and IT each approved by the University of Mumbai.
PGCL is the first and only law college under the University of Mumbai to be awarded an ‘A+’ Grade with a 3.28 CGPA by NAAC in its first accreditation cycle, recognizing its excellence in academics, teaching innovation, and holistic student development.
About Shastrartha
Shastrartha is PGCL’s flagship event which consists of interactive sessions by eminent speakers and inter-collegiate competitions. The objective of organizing Shastrartha is to foster an analytical mind-set that encourages students to refine their reasoning abilities, conditioning them to understand the practical application of laws.
Through this event, the institution seeks to contribute meaningfully to the formation of conscientious, socially responsible citizens and accomplished professionals. The event brings together a confluence of disciplines including law, society, economics, politics, sports, management, music, entertainment, and literature. Distinguished professionals from these domains deliver thought-provoking guest lectures that effectively bridge academic theory with real-world practice.
About the Competition
Aligned with the institution’s commitment to fostering a spirit of inquiry, critical thinking, and scholarly excellence within the legal fraternity, inter-collegiate competitions form an integral component of Shastratha. These competitions provide students with a platform to demonstrate their legal acumen, analytical reasoning, and practical understanding of the law.
The three innovative competitions for which we cordially invite students across India, are as under:
- Donning the Wig: A case will be argued before the participants, following which they will be required to draft a judgment.
- Reverse Engineering: Participants will be provided with a judgment and will be required to draft a corresponding plaint or petition.
- Narrative Jurisprudence: Participants will receive a newspaper clipping and, based on the same, will be required to plead on behalf of the accused.
Date and Time
Scheduled for the 12th and 13th of February 2026, and preceded by a comprehensive orientation session, the event offers a thoughtfully curated series of competitions designed to challenge intellects, stimulate critical thinking, and foster meaningful engagement.
- Orientation: 7th February, 2026 | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
- Donning the Wig: 9th February, 2026 | 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
- Reverse Engineering: 9th February, 2026 | 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- Narrative Jurisprudence: 10th February, 2026 | 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Competitions will be conducted online ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for participants from diverse geographical locations across India.

Registration Procedure
Only two participants per college are permitted to register for each competition. Participation is subject to limited seats and registrations shall be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis The registration link is available in the official brochure.
Eligibility
The Competition is open to students currently enrolled in LL.B. Degree Courses (3 years/5 years) recognized by the Bar Council of India.
Prizes
- 1st Rank: Rs. 1500
- 2nd Rank: Rs. 1000
The result of the competition will be declared on 13th February 2026, at the valedictory session.
