Faculty of Law is a constituent unit of Oriental University, Indore, established with the objective of bringing intellectual awakening and overall development of people of our country through education. It aims to be a self-sustaining institution of higher learning and research in quality legal education transcending national boundaries which is intellectually stimulating and imbibes a culture of justice in young professionals.

About the Event

To commemorate Law Day, this Online Essay Writing Competition aims to encourage students to deepen their understanding of legal principles, contemporary legal issues, and the role of law in society. The Faculty of Law, Oriental University invites young minds to articulate and present their perspectives by participating in the Essay Writing Competition on any one of the themes/topics mentioned below.

This competition offers a valuable platform for students to express their views on significant legal topics, enhance their research and analytical abilities search and analytical abilities and engage in meaningful academic discourse. It further aims to nurture legal aware and promote a thoughtful understanding of the evolving legal landscape in India.

Eligibility

The Competition is open to all students enrolled in an Undergraduate or Postgraduate programme in any Law Institution/School/University duly recognised in India.

Theme

  • Social Media, Free Speech, and Constitutional Limits: Where Do We Draw the Line?
  • The Role of the Election Commission in Safeguarding Constitutional Democracy.
  • Right to Education and Digital Divide: A Constitutional Challenge.

Prizes

  • 1st Position: ₹2100 & E-Certificate
  • 2nd Position: ₹1100 & E-Certificate
  • Certificates of Appreciation will be awarded to 3rd Position.
  • E-Certificates of Participation will be issued to all the registered participants.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Main Body: Font – Times New Roman, Font Size – 12, and Line Spacing -1.5
  • Footnotes: Font – Times New Roman, Font Size – 10, and Line Spacing – 1.0
  • Margins should be 1 inch or 2.54 cm on all sides.

Selection Guidelines

The evaluation of all submitted essays will follow a double-blind peer review process to ensure impartiality and fairness. This process will be conducted in two distinct stages:

Stage 1 will focus on ensuring compliance with the competition guidelines which includes check for: Similarity Percentage, Uniform Mode of Citation and Formatting Guidelines etc. Essays that pass the technical assessment will proceed to an evaluation based on their alignment with the competition theme and assessed on the basis of Clarity, Originality. Structure, Organization and Language Proficiency.

In Stage 2, the top 5 essays identified through Stage 1 will be forwarded to external evaluators for assessment of each shortlisted essay based on the criteria mentioned in Stage 1.

Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions must be made only via mail – [email protected]
  • The essay must be written in English and submitted in Microsoft Word document format (.doc/.docx).
  • Participants must submit their essay on only one theme mentioned above.
  • Co-authorship up to a maximum of two authors is permitted.
  • Only one submission is allowed per author/team. Submissions, both as co-author and single, will be treated as multiple submissions and will be disqualified as an entry to the competition.
  • The word limit is 2500-3000 words excluding footnotes.
  • Footnotes must follow the Bluebook system of citation (Harvard, 20th edition). Extensive footnotes or quotations should be avoided.
  • The essay must be original and bonafide work of the participant.
  • Incomplete or plagiarized submissions shall be summarily rejected. The similarity percentage must not exceed 08% (excluding footnotes).
  • The essay should not be submitted for any other competition and/or for any other purposes.

  • Last Date for Registration – 26th November, 2025
  • Last Date for Submission – 30th November, 2025 (11:59 PM)
  • Communication of Results – Second week of December, 2025
