About Faculty Of Law

The Faculty of Law, OUI, Indore, is a premier institution offering quality legal education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels through BALL.B. (Hons.)(5 Years) & LL.B. (Hons.)(3 Years), approved by the BCI and LL.M. (1 Year) approved by the UGC. It also provides Diploma and Certificate programs in Cyber Laws, IPR & Environmental Law, along with opportunities for a Doctorate in Law. The Faculty has received a grant under the Pro Bono Club (Nyaya Bandhu Scheme) and emphasizes experiential learning through courts, chambers, and legal camps.

About Pro Bono Club

Faculty of Law, Oriental University has been enrolled with the Pro Bono legal services scheme (also known as the Nyay Bandu Scheme), an initiative by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice for integration of all law schools with objective to improve quality of legal services by providing assistance to pro bono advocates through competent students. Under this scheme a Pro Bono Club has been established by The Faculty of Law to create legal awareness and consultancy.

Further, this Club aims to provide pro bono services to people in need of legal aid and also providing assistance to the Lok Adalats and ADR tribunals for promoting equal access to justice. This endeavour will give practical exposure to students and help them in becoming public-spirited practitioners and at the same time, it will also provide much-needed assistance to pro bono advocates and help them in elevating the quantity and quality of their work.

About Client Counseling Competition

The purpose of the competition is to promote greater knowledge and interest among law students in the client counseling functions of legal practice. The competition seeks to encourage students to develop and apply interviewing, planning, and analytical skills in establishing effective lawyer-client relationships.

The Faculty of Law, Oriental University, invites law students to participate, improve their abilities, analyze practical situations, and bridge the gap between clients and legal practitioners. This competition will help students discuss and analyze issues, make concise and sound decisions in a court of law, and equip them with the skills to resolve disputes through counseling and mid-way settlements.

Language Of The Competition

The official language of the competition shall be English.

Eligibility Criteria For Participants

Students pursuing a 3-year LL.B. course or a 5-year Integrated LL.B. course are eligible to participate.

Participation Rules

  1. The competition will consist of three rounds, namely Preliminary, Semi-Final, and Final.
  2. The rounds will be based on Civil Laws including Contract Laws, Personal Laws etc. and Criminal Laws
  3. Each team shall comprise three participants: Counsel 1, Counsel 2and a Client. However, in the Semi-Final and Final rounds, only the counsels shall be present, and the client shall be provided by the organizing committee. To ensure wider participation, not more than two teams from any particular institution shall be permitted to participate in the competition.
  4. During the Counselling period, students are expected to elicit relevant information from the client, explore the client’s preferred outcome, outline the nature of the problem and suggest appropriate methods to resolve it.
  5. Participants will be evaluated by a panel of judges based on specific criteria, including listening skills, questioning techniques, planning, and analytical abilities of a lawyer.
  6. There will be a total of three sessions for each team in every round, lasting 30 minutes: Counselling (20 minutes), Post-counselling (5 minutes), and a Judges’ Question-Answer Round (remaining 5 minutes).
  7. Each team shall be allotted a unique Team Code, which must be used for identification throughout the competition.
  8. The problem for the Preliminary Round will be released two days prior to the round.
  9. The problems for the Semi-Final and Final Rounds will be released twohour prior to the respective rounds.

Dress Code

For all rounds, participants must strictly adhere to the Advocate’s uniform as prescribed under the Advocates Act, 1961 (except band and gown).

Registration Process

  • The registration fee is ₹999. All registered participants are required to compulsorily attend the Preliminary Round of the competition.

  • No transportation facilities will be provided.
  • Accommodation will be provided on request; however, participants shall bear the separate charges.
  • Coupons for lunch and snacks will be provided to participants of the Semi-Final and Final Rounds.

Awards And Prizes

  • E-Certificates of participation will be awarded to all participants.
  • Hard copy certificates will be awarded only to the Winner and Runner-Up teams.
  • Cash Prize for the Winning Team: ₹5100
  • Cash Prize for the Runner-Up Team: ₹2100
  • Best Counsel Award: ₹1100
