About the Internship

River is hiring an Intern – Intellectual Property to support its intellectual property function. The internship offers exposure to patent and trademark law, legal research, patent drafting, prior art analysis, trademark clearance, and patent portfolio management while working closely with research and development teams.

Eligibility

Applicants should:

• Be currently pursuing or have recently completed a degree in Law or a related field.
• Patent Agents are also encouraged to apply.
• Have the ability to conduct thorough legal research using various databases and resources.
• Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex legal or technical information clearly.
• Show an interest in intellectual property law, patents, and innovation.
• Be able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualification

• A technical background or degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred, though not mandatory, for better understanding of invention disclosures.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research on patent and trademark law, including case law and regulatory developments.
• Assist in drafting patent applications, including specifications, claims, and drawings.
• Perform prior art searches using patent databases such as USPTO, EPO, Orbit, and Google Patents, and summarise findings for research and development teams.
• Manage the intake and tracking of invention disclosures and assist with preliminary patentability assessments.
• Support patent portfolio management by maintaining patent dockets, tracking deadlines, and monitoring pending applications.
• Conduct trademark clearance searches to assess the availability and registrability of proposed brand names, logos, and slogans.
• Monitor potential trademark infringements and assist in gathering evidence for enforcement or opposition proceedings.
