About University of Mumbai Law Academy

The University of Mumbai Law Academy is a constituent unit of the University of Mumbai, one of India’s oldest and premier institutes. Established in the year 2015, the University of Mumbai Law Academy has taken an initiative to provide excellent quality legal education and is committed to bringing forth ambitious and intellectually enriched legal professionals.

UMLA provides a 5-year integrated B.B.A. L.L.B. (Hons.) Course with a niche curriculum designed and crafted to compete with the highest industry standards where students gain insights into both domains of Management and Law.

Eligibility

Students pursuing either a 3-Year or a 5-Year L.L.B. degree in the Academic Year 2022-23 at any recognized Law School/College/University in India are eligible to participate. Each participating institute shall send only one team to the Competition. Team members must be bonafide students of the University they are representing. Once registered (after Final Registrations), a Team will not be permitted to alter its composition in any manner.

Team Composition

The participating team shall comprise maximum three (3) members. In a team of two (2) members, both the members shall be designated as ‘Speakers’. In a team of three (3) members, two members shall be designated as ‘Speakers’ and the third member of the team shall be designated as a ‘Researcher’.

Structure of the competition

The Competition will be structured as per the following format:

  • Preliminary Round 1
  • Preliminary Round 2
  • Quarter-Final Rounds
  • Semi-Final Rounds
  • Final Round

Awards

The competition embraces the following awards:

  1. Winning Team: Cash Prize of Rs. 21,000/-
  2. Runner up Team: Cash Prize of Rs. 15,000/-
  3. Best Researcher: Cash Prize of Rs. 7,500/-
  4. Best Speaker: Cash Prize of Rs. 7,500/-

Registration

All the teams willing to participate in the ‘Hon’ble Justice D.R. Dhanuka 1st National Moot Court Competition, 2022’ must fill the provisional registration form by 09th October 2022; detailed instructions regarding the final registration process will be shared with the institutes that provisionally register for the Competition.

Upon completion of the provisional registration period, the final registration process shall commence from 10th October to 20th October. During this period, institutes that have provisionally registered will be required to complete final registration formalities (that will be emailed to them); this is when the participating teams will be required to pay the registration fees of Rs.3,000/team (Rupees Three Thousand per Team).

In case of any dispute, discrepancy, differences, etc., the final discretion shall vest with the Moot Court Society and its decision shall be final and binding. Furthermore, the Moot Court Society also reserves the right to cancel the registration of any team at any stage in case of misconduct, incapacity or any other improper act or likewise.
