MAIMS was established in 2003 by Maharaja Agrasen Technical Education Society. The Institute has attained a distinct position in running BBA, B. Com(H), BA (H) Eco., BA JMC, BA LL.B (Integrated), and BBA LL.B (Integrated), LLM [IPR (2022), Corporate Law and ADR (2023)] programmes affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi.

The Department of Law was established in 2017 by introducing a five-year integrated BA LL.B degree program. Established as a unit of the Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management Studies, the Department of Law aims to provide quality education with a professional approach to the budding legal professionals.

Details About the Competition

MAIMS 5th Mock Trial Competition, 2026, aims to provide a dynamic platform for law students across India to showcase and strengthen their advocacy, research, and courtroom skills in a professional and intellectually stimulating environment. The 5th edition of the competition revolves around the theme of mental health, superstition, and criminal liability, highlighting the intersection of psychological vulnerability, blind faith, and legal responsibility.

The Competition shall be conducted in a Hybrid Mode, wherein the Preliminary Rounds and Quarter-Final Round shall be held virtually, while the Semi-Final and Final Rounds shall take place offline at the MAIMS campus. Designed to replicate real courtroom proceedings, the Competition will involve framing of arguments, examination-in-chief, cross-examination, and re-examination of witnesses, providing participants with practical exposure to trial advocacy and litigation strategy.

The Competition aims to bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and practical courtroom experience by fostering critical thinking, legal research, professionalism, and effective advocacy skills.

Theme of the Competition

The competition will revolve around a thought-provoking theme:

“Mental Health, Superstition and Criminal Liability.”

Blind Faith and Psychological Vulnerability: Where Spiritual Belief Crosses the Line into Criminal Responsibility

This theme seeks to explore the complex intersection between mental health, grief-induced vulnerability, superstition, and the extent of criminal liability arising from acts committed under psychological influence and blind faith.

Who is it for/Eligibility

Participation is open to bona fide students pursuing the 3-year or 5-year LL.B. programme from any University/College/Institution recognised by the Bar Council of India.

A maximum of two teams from the same Institution/University are permitted to participate in the competition.

Each team shall consist of four members, comprising two Speakers and two Researchers-cum-Witness. Both the Researchers shall perform the role of witnesses during the respective rounds of the competition. However, only one designated Researcher from each team shall be eligible to appear for the Researcher’s Test.

The competition shall be conducted in Hybrid Mode, with Preliminary and Quarter-Final Rounds held virtually, while the Semi-Final and Final Rounds shall be conducted offline at the MAIMS campus.

For the Preliminary and Quarter-Final Rounds, the Researcher-cum-Witness shall perform the role of witness as per the proposition. For the Semi-Final and Final Rounds, witnesses shall be provided by the Organising Committee.

Registration Fees

The participating teams are required to pay Rs. 5600/- (Rupees Five Thousand Six Hundred Only) as Registration Fees.

An additional accommodation fee of Rs. 4000/- shall be applicable for qualifying teams opting for accommodation during the Offline Rounds. Accommodation is optional and shall be arranged by the Organising Committee upon request.

An Early Bird Discount is being offered, wherein teams registering on or before 23rd May, 2026 [23:59 IST] shall be required to pay Rs. 5000/- only.

The Last Date for Payment of Registration Fee is 23rd August, 2026 [23:59 IST].

Note: All payments made towards registration and accommodation are non-refundable.

Registration Procedure

The teams are required to choose a primary contact person while filling out the Registration Form. All communications concerning the Competition shall be sent via email to the nominated contact person, who shall be responsible for conveying all relevant information to the team members.

Upon successful registration, each team shall be allotted a unique Team Code for the Competition. The allotted Team Code must be used for all further communication with the Organising Committee during the course of the Competition.

Participants shall refrain from identifying or disclosing their law school/college/university at any stage of the Competition, including through clothing, accessories, books, logos, badges, or any other identifying material. Any such disclosure may invite penalties, including disqualification, at the discretion of the Organisers.

Any change in the team composition must be intimated to the Organising Committee at the earliest via email at [email protected], along with a freshly filled Registration Form.

The participating teams are required to pay Rs. 5600/- (Rupees Five Thousand Six Hundred Only) as Registration Fees. However, teams availing the Early Bird Discount on or before 23rd May, 2026 [23:59 IST] shall be required to pay Rs. 5000/- only.

Prizes

  • Best team: Cash Prize of Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand Only) + Certificate of Merit.
  • Runner-up team: Cash Prize of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees Twenty-Five Thousand Only) + Certificate of Merit.
  • Best speaker: Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand Only) + Certificate of Merit.
  • Best researcher: Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand Only) + Certificate of Merit.
  • Best memorial: Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees Five Thousand Only) + Certificate of Merit.
  • Best witness: Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand Only) + Certificate of Merit.
  • Maims exemplary witness: Certificate of Merit.
