Following the successful completion of its first three editions, CLUD is organising the fourth edition of the national seminar and invites participation from interested individuals.

About the Seminar

Affordable housing is fundamental to building an inclusive society in twenty-first-century India. Rapid urbanisation and rising housing costs have made access to affordable housing an important policy priority, closely linked to Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11), which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Government initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and the vision of Housing for All reflect sustained efforts towards achieving this objective. However, challenges relating to land, financing, regulation and dispute resolution continue to affect effective implementation.

The seminar will examine the legal, policy and institutional frameworks governing affordable housing in India within the broader objective of developing sustainable cities and communities. It will explore how legal and regulatory reforms, housing finance, urban planning, land governance and infrastructure can support inclusive urban growth.

The discussions will also consider the role of technology, artificial intelligence and innovation in shaping the future of affordable housing, alongside issues concerning climate resilience, disaster-responsive planning, gender equity, housing rights, governance, social justice, public transport and urban accessibility.

By bringing together academicians, researchers, practitioners, policymakers and industry stakeholders, the seminar aims to encourage interdisciplinary dialogue, promote innovative research and develop policy recommendations in line with India’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda.
