About St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata

Established in 2017, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata is a private university run by the Jesuits. SXUK has a sprawling campus expanding to 16.64 acres of land and houses five depts: Xavier Law School, Xavier Business School, Faculty of Commerce and Management, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Faculty of Science. Established in 2019, Xavier Law School seeks to carry on the legacy of Jesuit education in legal education and research. Currently, it offers two undergraduate courses – B.A.LLB (Hons.) and B.Com.LLB. (Hons.), 2-year LLM courses in Business Law and Criminal Law and a PhD course.

About Xavier Society of Law and Justice

The Xavier Society of Law and Justice (XSLAJ), a student-run society of Xavier Law School, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata is organizing the 3rd Xavier Mediation Competition -XMC’25 on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of April, 2025. XMC’25 invites law students from any institution recognized by the competent authority to engage in meaningful deliberation, hone their mediation skills, and immerse themselves in a collaborative environment that fosters both personal and professional growth.

Eligibility

For students belonging to any Law School/ College/University/Institution within India, any student pursuing any three-year or five-year integrated courses of the LL.B. degree from any Law School/College/University/Institution recognized by the Competent Authority is eligible to participate (Students pursuing the LL.M. degree are also eligible to participate). For International Students, any student pursuing any law degree which is recognized by the competent authority is eligible to participate.

Students from any Year/Semester can form/join a Team and register for participation. Cross-Semester Participation is allowed, i.e., a Team may consist of students from different semesters/years, however, the college/university must be the same.

Composition of Teams

Each team shall mandatorily consist of 3 members. This number cannot be modified under any circumstances. There shall be 1 Mediator, 1 Counsel and 1 Client. The Client and Counsel together shall constitute the ‘Negotiating Pair’. The roles will not be subject to any change after the confirmation of the team’s registration.

Mode and Duration

XMC’25 is being organized in an offline mode at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of April,2025.

Last Date To Register

The last date for registering as a team is Wednesday, 26th of March, 2025.

Awards

• The Best Negotiating Pair shall receive the XMC- “Champions Cup” and Gold Medallion. They will also receive a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000.
• The Best Mediator shall receive the XMC- “Magis Cup”, a Gold Medallion and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.
• The Runner-up Negotiating Pair shall receive a Silver Medallion and a cash prize of Rs. 40,000.
• The Runner-Up Mediator will be awarded a Silver Medallion and a cash prize of Rs. 20,000.
• All the Winners will get Printed Merit Certificates.
• The winners shall also receive paid internship opportunities at Khaitan & Co
• All the members of the participating team shall receive printed Participation Certificates.

Registration Fee

• INR 4500 for students from universities/colleges etc. within India.
• USD 60 for students from universities within SAARC region (except India).
• USD 100 for students from universities outside SAARC region.
