About the Opportunity
The 2nd National Moot Court Competition 2025 at IIMT College of Law offers a timely opportunity to sharpen courtroom advocacy, legal research, and drafting through a realistic criminal law problem centered on Section 304B IPC, cruelty under Section 498A, and evidentiary presumptions under Section 113B of the Evidence Act, with teams required to argue both sides and submit memorials following strict formatting and structure guidelines.
With preliminary, knockout, and researcher-test rounds, plus awards for Winner, Runner-Up, Best Mooter, Best Researcher, and Best Memorial, the event provides experiential learning, feedback from benches, and recognition that can strengthen resumes and confidence for future litigation or clerkship pathways.
Beyond skills, the competition delivers professional exposure to contemporary issues like “dowry death,” where essentials include death within seven years of marriage, cruelty or harassment connected to dowry demands “soon before death,” and potential life imprisonment—doctrinal terrain participants will brief and argue using circumstantial, medical, and forensic evidence as outlined in the proposition and issues for adjudication. Scheduled for 14–15 October 2025 with registrations open 1–30 September, a Rs. 1,500 team fee, and memorial and dress-code requirements, it creates a structured, high-stakes platform to practice strategy, time management, and oral responsiveness under pressure—core advocacy competencies highlighted by legal education experts on moot pedagogy.
Theme
The theme is a criminal law problem centred on alleged “dowry death” and related cruelty, requiring analysis of Section 304B IPC, Section 498A IPC, and presumptions under Section 113B of the Indian Evidence Act using medical, forensic, and circumstantial evidence from the proposition. Teams must argue both prosecution and defence on issues like ingredients of dowry death, burden of proof, evidentiary weight of staff testimony and toxicology, and the sustainability of a no-direct-evidence defence, reflecting a holistic focus on dowry-related offences and evidentiary standards.
