Brief Profile of National Law Institute University, Bhopal
The National Law Institute University has been effective in fostering in its students an awareness of a broad viewpoint as well as intellectual and reflexive capacities keeping in mind larger national and humanitarian purposes. In this country, legal education never received the attention it deserved. It is paradoxical that while the Constitution established the concept of growth through law and ushered in the ideal of the rule of law, little attention was given to legal studies. In Indian universities, the study of law has lagged for close to 50 years.
Professionals and academicians began to realise that the current method of teaching law was woefully inadequate, unimaginative, and disconnected from the most pressing social challenges of the day, but changes have been hard to come by.
The Madhya Pradesh government deserves praise for realising that the globalisation and liberalisation policies have given the populace new prospects for economic growth and development. Transnational and supranational regimes posed new problems for the legal profession as well as for economics and finance. To handle the obligations brought on by the new changes around the world, it is necessary to have a trained cadre of committed and knowledgeable lawyers.
