About The Conference

This workshop series is intended to disseminate knowledge in the area of Intellectual property litigation, preliminary skills in drafting the agreement relating to IP transactions, and the vital issues in the field of IP practice and litigation.

Background

Intellectual Property is created out of one’s intellect or mind. In order to protect the rights of the creators and owners of inventions, Intellectual Property Laws play a significant role in extending protection to the creators. The IP Laws not only protect the rights of the creators but also play a vital role in business and transactional matters.

The drafting, negotiating, and litigation of IP agreements require special legal skills. In order to practice effectively it is necessary to be aware of the commercial practice in the relevant industry sector. The Workshop Series will try to address a mix of legal and transactional issues that IP Lawyers face. It will also focus on the Transaction practice on how to advise entrepreneurs and industry leaders across various sectors and how to mitigate the risk and maximize the value of IP. This series of workshops is also essential for the students and young professionals to understand IP Practice by examining the various disputes and litigation strategies.

Concept Note

Patent transactions refer to the various types of agreements and contracts that a patent owner enters into for enforcing its patent. The transactions include patent licensing agreements, patent sale/acquisition, royalty agreements, and other similar types of agreements. Patent Licensing is also a complex matter which requires an understanding of patent law in addition to an understanding of contract law; patent technology.

The first workshop of the Workshop series on Intellectual Property Transactions Practise and Litigation deals with the patent transactions practice including patent licensing and patent litigation.
