The Punjab Judiciary Examination is conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) for the recruitment of civil judges (Junior Division) in the state of Punjab, India. The examination consists of a written test followed by an interview process. The syllabus for the Punjab Judiciary Examination is designed to test the knowledge and aptitude of candidates in various areas of law.

Punjab judiciary exam pattern

Phase 1 – Prelims examination is of objective type.
Phase 2 – Mains exam is of written type.
Phase 3 – Interview

Negative marking of 1.5 will be deducted in the prelims examination.

Punjab judiciary syllabus for preliminary examination

You will face the preliminary exam first which is an objective test of 125 Questions and each question shall carry 4 Marks. The syllabus for the preliminary examination shall be the same as provided for Paper – I to IV for the Main examination.

The candidates shall be expected to have a general and basic overview of the main subjects and also the ability to answer the questions on current events of national and international importance, Indian legal and Constitutional history and governance.

The written test for the Punjab Judiciary Examination consists of 5 papers.

Paper I – Civil Law I (200 Marks)

  • Code of Civil Procedure
  • Punjab Courts Act
  • Indian Contract Act
  • Indian Sales of Goods Act
  • Indian Partnership Act
  • Specific Relief Act
  • Transfer of Property Act
  • East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act
  • Indian Evidence Act

Paper II – Civil Law Ii (200 Marks)

  • Hindu Law
  • Mohammedan Law
  • Customary Law
  • Law of Registration and Limitation

Paper III – Criminal Law (200 Marks)

  • Indian Penal Code,
  • Criminal Procedure Code and
  • Indian Evidence Act

Paper IV – English (200 Marks)

  • English Essay (1000 – 1100 words)
  • Precis Writing
  • Words & Phrases (make sentences of given words and phrases)
  • Comprehension
  • Corrections

Paper V – Language (150 Marks)

Punjabi language in Gurumukhi script.

Phase 3 – Interview(100 Marks)

Candidates who qualify the written test are called for an interview process. The interview carries a weightage of 100 marks and assesses candidates’ suitability for the role of a civil judge.
