Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Services

  1. Phase 1 – Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Services Prelims examination is of objective type.
  2. Phase 2 – Mains examination is of a written type.
  3. Phase 3 – Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Services Interview

Negative marking of 0.25 will be deducted in the prelims examination.

Phase 1 – Preliminary Examination

There will be two Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Services preliminary exams which are of objective type of 225 Marks Each. This will act as a screening test. The question will be based on the following subjects:

Paper-A (225 Marks)

  1. General Knowledge
  2. Indian Constitution Law and Constitution of Jammu & Kashmir State.
  3. Criminal Procedure Code.
  4. Evidence Act.
  5. Indian Penal Code.
  6. Limitation Act.

Paper-B (225 Marks)

  1. Financial Code Volume 1&2
  2. Kashmir Service Regulation Chapters III to XIII and XXII and XXIII.
  3. Rules and orders for the guidance of Subordinate Courts {Civil and Criminal} and circular orders issued by the High Court.
  4. Civil Procedure Code.
  5. Registration Act.
  6. Transfer of Property Act.
  7. Right of Prior Purchase Act.
  8. Houses and Shops Rent Control Act.
  9. Jammu and Kashmir Laws

Phase 2 – Mains Examination

The Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Services mains examination consists of Compulsory Paper and Optional Paper.

1. Compulsory Examination

The exam is conducted under the FOUR sections. Each paper shall carry 100 marks each.

Paper I:

  1. English Essay.
  2. Translation from English into Urdu or Hindi and vice versa.
  3. Precis Writing

Paper -II:

  1. General Knowledge
  2. Indian Constitution Law and Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir State.

Paper III:

  1. Criminal Procedure Code.
  2. Evidence Act.
  3. Indian Penal Code.

Paper IV:

  1. Financial Code Volume 1&2.
  2. Kashmir Service Regulation Chapters III to XIII and XXII and XXIII.
  3. Rules and orders for the guidance of Subordinate Courts (Civil and Criminal) and circular orders issued by the High Court.

Paper V

  1. Civil Procedure Code.
  2. Limitation Act.
  3. Jammu and Kashmir Registration Act.

Paper VI

  1. Transfer of Property Act.
  2. Right of Prior Purchase Act.
  3. House and Shops Rent Control Act.

2. Optional Papers

Paper 1:

  1. Hindu Law.
  2. Mohammedan Law.
  3. Customary Law of the State.

Paper -II:

  1. Law of Companies.
  2. Insurance Law.

Paper III:

  1. Principles of Equity including the Law of Trusts and Specific Relief.

Paper IV:

  1. Jammu and Kashmir Contract Act.
  2. Law of Torts.

Paper V

  1. Suits Valuation Act.
  2. Court Fee Act.
  3. Stamp Act.
  4. Agriculture Relief Act.
  5. Excise Act and Rules.

NOTE: Minimum marks are 40% in each written paper and aggregate of 50% to qualify for an interview. Relaxation of 5% each has been made for SC/ST/PWD.

Phase 3 – Interview

  1. The interview will carry 150 Marks
